Blow drying has been the best friend of fine, flat hair since 1964. We reveal all the secrets for a perfect blow-dry!

Anyone looking for volume needs to blow-dry your hair: with a blow-dryer and a round brush, the idea is to blow-dry each strand of hair by lifting it off. However, sticking to this level of knowledge isn't enough: experts will tell you that the art of blow-drying is much more meticulous than that! Let's take a look at the secrets of perfect blow-drying right away.

The invention of blow-drying

Let's go back to the very beginning of the story, the birth of the blow-dry. It's none other than Mr. Patrick Alès, founder of the Phyto Paris brand, who had the brilliant idea of inventing the blow-dry in 1964. At a time when only hair rollers existed, he had the idea of combining a round brush and the heat of a hair-dryer to obtain a temporary shaping of the hair, which brings volume while respecting its natural movement.

Who's blow-drying for?

Blow-drying is ideal for all straight hair, but especially for fine and flat hair. The movement of the blow dryer helps to compensate for their lack of body and creates a natural movement in the hair.
Blow-drying the hair, from roots to ends, will give volume and lightness to the hair, and for a long time!

Before blow-drying ritual

You don't blow-dry your hair like that, without having prepared your hair well in advance. First of all, a blow-dry is to be done on clean hair. What's that for? Because the hair must be as light as possible, without excess sebum, without accumulation of products and without pollution particles. Then, blow-drying is best done on damp hair. Doing it on dry hair might weakening it and dehydrating it.

Haircare to use for perfect blow-drying

The quality of blow-drying will depend on the quality and type of hair care used in the shower. You need products that care for your hair by moisturizing and cleansing it, but that aren’t heavy, so as not to weigh the hair down and pull it down.

Our recommendation: the PHYTOVOLUME range from Phyto Paris. Designed for fine, flat hair, the Volumizing Shampoo cleanses lightly, the Volumizing Gel Mask delivers the essentials to your hair without weighing it down, while the Volumizing Blow-Dry Spray will promote maximum volume, from roots to ends!

This Spray has been 100% designed to become your essential ally during brushing: thermo-active, it is activated by heat. The plant proteins of Pea and Nasturtium extract boost the volume of fine, flat hair from the roots.

In addition, the Spray reinforces the elasticity of the fiber and gives it spring for a perfect hold of the hairstyle!  The icing on the cake is that it acts as a real heat shield.

Finally, if frizz tends to appear on your hair, you will certainly need an anti-frizz treatment such as PHYTODEFRISANT: apply it to wet hair just after getting out of the shower!

The essential tools for blow-drying

Ideal brushing doesn’t require complicated tools to get.

You need a dryer, preferably with a diffuser, to better control the air flow. Ideally, the dryer should be powerful, and you should be able to have several temperatures and intensities available. The aim is to be able to adapt these parameters according to the stages of your brushing.

You also need a round brush, the diameter of which corresponds to your hair length! If your hair is long, opt for a large round brush. If your hair is short, choose a small round brush.

Ceramic is the ideal material: it distributes the heat evenly!

Finally, a clip or other accessory to hold your hair temporarily will be necessary. Clips have the advantage of being easy to put on and take off (and with one hand). What's more, it leaves no marks on your hair!

The basic steps of blow-dry

Here comes the moment of truth at last. Discover step by step how to do a good blow dry.

PRE-DRYING
When you get out of the shower, effectively dry your hair and leave it out to air-dry for at least 10 minutes. The point is to make sure that the water evaporates by itself, and not to start heating your hair too early, as this can remove water from the heart of the hair fibre.

10 minutes after leaving your hair out to air-dry, apply the PHYTOVOLUME Volumizing Brushing Spray to the roots and lengths, then distribute the treatment with your fingertips.

Start drying your hair coarsely, so that it is just slightly damp. Choose a strong intensity, and intermediate heat!

SECTION YOUR HAIR
Then it's time to section your hair into 3 sections, from bottom to top.
Take the round brush and blow-dryer and blow dry, strand by strand, the lowest section - the one at the base of the skull. Choose a low intensity, and a high heat!
Once each strand in the section has been dried, move on to the next one!

LIFT THE ROOTS
For this volume effect from the root, it is essential to lift the strand in the opposite direction. For example, if the strand goes downwards, place the round brush underneath - and simultaneously move the round brush and the running blow-dryer upwards - to lift the roots and maximize volume!

Golden tip: place the blow-dryer at least 5 centimetres away from the hair strand. Not only is it useless, but sticking the blow-dryer to the hair increases the risk of damaging it!
