Hair Product Build-up: what to do?

Easy solutions to adopt if your hair and scalp get dirty fast and suffer from product build-up.

We all know about dirty-looking, greasy hair: lack of volume, shine and dull looking hair... your head feels limp or greasy. Your immediate reaction is to wash your hair with the first shampoo you get, or use a LOT of dry shampoos. But are these really the best solutions? Let’s see.

Why do we hair gests greasy fast?

It's a very broad question! The reasons vary from one person to another, but they are almost always the same: a sebum production disorder and/or an unbalanced scalp.
First of all, if you’re used to using heavy hair styling products, dry shampoos, shampoos with silicones or gasses... chances are that your hair is covered under layers and layers of chemical substances that affected the scalp and hair daily.

As a sad bonus, the air we breathe every day is also affected by all kinds of pollution, which also ends up on the scalp and hair. Both by outdoor particles of pollution, such as automobile exhaust gases, air pollution, but also internal pollution through food that leaves traces in the hair...
In both cases, results are the same: scalp and hair are suffocated, out of balance. They need to breathe again!

A Clarifying Shampoo: The Miracle remedy to polluted hair

Haircare mavens often have 3 essential shampoos in their bathroom: a shampoo for daily use, gentle and respectful of the scalp's needs, a treating shampoo, to be used if a hair loss or dandruff crisis comes up, and ultimately a clarifying shampoo, to be used once a week, to deep cleanse and detoxify the scalp and hair from rough polluting particles.

How does it work?

Clarifying shampoos remove the polluting residues that dull hair from root to tip.
For those at ease with clarifying shampoos, you know that you should choose yours carefully, to avoid over-drying your hair and scalp by removing too much sebum.
Many clarifying shampoos on the market may result in too rough on the sensitive scalp and fine hair, causing more damage, than good.
To get the best of both worlds, PHYTO offers you PHYTOD-TOX Clarifying Shampoo: made from an active concentrate of natural ingredients known for their purifying and soothing properties, such as St. John's Wort, Hamamelis, Sage and Chamomile extracts, this shampoo carefully eliminates every polluting residue that dulls hair, without ever drying out the fibre or damaging the scalp.

Final result? The hair is supple, incredibly light and soft! Freed from pollution, it stays clean longer!

A purifying Pre-shampoo: Something you should have in your routine.

To deeply purify the hair, there's nothing better than a purifying, exfoliating Pre-shampoo for the scalp. Whether you want to deep cleanse or rebalance your scalp, this is your best option.
To this matter, PHYTO Paris attended with the PHYTOD-TOX Purifying Pre-Shampoo. Once a week, it removes impurities, residues of pollution and styling products to cleanse the scalp intensely.

How does it work? Thanks to Ghassoul clay, known for its absorption power and capable of trapping sebum, dust and asphyxiating particles, and Eucalyptus essential oil, ideal for purifying and refreshing polluted and asphyxiated hair.

Next, you need the PHYTOPOLLEINE botanical treatment: 100% natural and botanical, this treatment composed of essential oils that helps rebalance your scalp, regulate sebum production and tone the scalp and its microcirculation to make it work better.

Which other daily use shampoo and mask can you use?

On a daily basis, choose shampoos that respect your scalp and its needs. They must be gentle on the scalp and rigorously without silicones, parabens and mineral oils. Prefer shampoos that take care of your lengths, if you don’t have any particular scalp problem.

The PHYTO Paris touch: All our shampoos are paraben-free, silicone-free, mineral-oils free.

Everybody has dry hair, so why not trying PHYTOJOBA?

Do you dye your hair? You may look for protection and gentle cleansing with PHYTOMILLESIME.

Moving to masks, never choose heavy or too rich in texture, unless you have very brittle and damaged hair. They may weigh down the hair fibre and give that flat, volume-less effect. To avoid product build-up, never apply a mask above the ears! You really need to focus on the lengths and ends - that's all.

The all-star advice: you must space between your shampoos

The first reflex when you have oily, flat hair is to run in the shower, rub your scalp hard and repeat the operation every day... YES, THE STRUGGLE IS REAL. BUT, it's the worst thing to do!

On the contrary, you should space out your shampoos, and try to wait at least 2 to 3 days between each shampoo. In the beginning, it will probably feel like a challenge. So start with 2 days... by tying your hair up on day 2!

The reason is simple: over-washed scalps are more reactive and they end by creating more sebum than normal. Also, no need to rub the scalp vigorously! Just go slowly, in a gentle, circular motion. Instead, leave the shampoo on for 2 minutes to allow its active ingredients to take effect.

The golden hair detox advice: Brush your hair

Last but not least, here's an easy trick: brush your hair morning and night. In the morning, you put the hair back on and untangle it.

But the evening is the most important moment, because brushing the hair removes excess pollutants and styling products, but also distributes the sebum harmoniously!

Dirty and greasy hair will now only have vague memories... since you have all the solutions in hand to make it breathe! Remember, the human body and your hair take time to assimilate the messages: let them adapt to this new routine, and be as rigorous as possible!
